Creating or finding a route on OpenRunner and following it with your Garmin device has never been easier!
We offer a simple and quick solution that allows you to send your OpenRunner routes to your Garmin devices (watch and/or GPS). This makes it easy to manage the list of routes on your devices. Here's how to do it:
Prerequisites:
Before starting this connection between the apps, here are a few prerequisites:
- Check that your Garmin device is compatible with the OpenRunner IQ plugin; consult the list of compatible devices.
- Download the “Garmin Connect” app on your smartphone and pair your device with this app.
Step 1: Establish the connection between Garmin and OpenRunner apps
- Open the "Garmin Connect Mobile" app.
- On Android: Click the menu in the top left.
- On iOS: Click "More" at the bottom right.
- Click "Connect IQ Store" (you don’t have to download the Connect IQ app).
- Search for "OpenRunner" and download this plugin.
Step 2: Connecting the OpenRunner app with a Garmin device
- On your Garmin device, open "Connect IQ" and then click on "OpenRunner".
- Follow the instructions displayed on your device and smartphone. You must enter your OpenRunner login credentials to create a link between the apps.
- Your route list will appear, though it is currently empty. Find out how to add routes in the next step!
Step 3: Sending an OpenRunner route to a Garmin device
After linking OpenRunner and Connect IQ, you can transfer your routes to your Garmin device. Here’s how:
- In the OpenRunner app, go to the "Routes" page and choose the route you want to send to your Garmin device.
- Open the route page, click the three dots in the top right corner, and select "Send to Garmin".
- The route is transferred to your "OpenRunner" route list on your Garmin device. To find and download the route, proceed to the next step!
Step 4: Downloading and following routes on a Garmin device
- On your Garmin device, open "Connect IQ" and click on OpenRunner. Your route will be displayed in the list.
- Click on the route to download it. (If your device is not touchscreen, press the "Start" button). An icon will appear to indicate the start of the download, and it will freeze once the download is complete.
- Once the download is finished, your route is now on your Garmin device.
- To follow this route, go to the "Navigation" menu and then "Routes".
Step 5: Managing transferred routes
- In OpenRunner, go to the "Routes" page.
- Click the "On Garmin IQ" tab (next to the "Deleted" tab, on the far right).
- On Android: Click the options button in the top right of the screen, then click "Select" or long press on one of the routes.
- On iOS: Click the options button in the top left of the screen, then click "Select".
- Select the route(s) you no longer wish to appear in the "OpenRunner" route list on your Garmin device.
- Click the IQ button at the bottom of the page.
NB: This operation does not delete your routes from your OpenRunner account.
