The multi-route display feature allows you to edit, view, and compare several routes at the same time within the editor.
Here’s how to add routes to the editor and make the most of this functionality.
From the website
1. From the route search
-
Go to the Route Search page on the OpenRunner website.
-
The list of results shows all public routes shared on OpenRunner that match your search criteria.
-
Find the route you want to edit or compare.
-
Click on the route — either on its thumbnail in the list or directly on the map trace.
-
Click the “Copy” icon (two overlapping squares).
Hovering over the icon will display the tooltip “Add a copy to the editor.” -
The route will be added to the editor, and a notification will indicate how many routes are currently open.
If you just want to save the route for later, add it to a collection.
2. From your routes list
-
Open “My Routes” from the top-right menu.
-
Depending on the display mode:
-
In table view: click the three dots at the end of the row.
-
In thumbnail view: click the three dots at the bottom right of the thumbnail.
-
-
Select “Add to editor.”
-
The selected routes will appear in the editor, accessible via the “Route Editor” tab.
3. From the details page of a route you own
-
On the route details page, click the red button “Edit in the editor.”
-
You will be redirected to the editor with the route loaded.
4. From the details page of a public route (not your own)
-
Click the three vertical dots at the top right of the page.
-
Select “Add to editor.”
-
The route will be added to the editor, and a notification will confirm how many routes are currently open.
Tip: navigate without losing your work
You can browse freely between pages without losing your ongoing edits.
Add routes to the editor from the search results or your personal list, then open the editor to compare, overlay, or modify them.
You can return to the search page anytime to add more routes if needed.
From the mobile app
1. From a route you own
-
Open the route.
-
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
-
Two options are available:
-
Edit the route (to modify your original version directly)
-
Duplicate and edit the route (to create an editable copy without changing the original)
-
2. From a public route (not your own)
-
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
-
Select “Duplicate and edit the route.”
A copy will be added to your account and opened in the editor.
Note: editing on mobile
In the mobile app, it’s currently not possible to display multiple routes at once.
You can edit only one route at a time.
The OpenRunner team is working on improving this feature to bring multi-route display to the mobile version soon.
Managing modifications
-
Routes you own:
Routes you add and edit in the editor are directly editable.
Any changes made are applied to the original version of the route. -
Routes you don’t own:
A copy of the original route is added to the editor.
Your edits will be saved as a new route in your personal list.
