Do you have a GPX file and want to use it in OpenRunner? Follow these simple steps to import your file into the route editor and start working on your itinerary.
Importing a GPX on the mobile app
Option 1: From the OpenRunner app
Go to the “Routes” page:
Open the OpenRunner app.
Tap + New route at the bottom right of the screen.
Select the “Import” option:
Choose Import a GPX track to start the process.
Add your GPX file:
Browse your files and select the GPX file saved on your device.
Option 2: From another location
Access your GPX file:
Locate the file in an email, a conversation, or a file manager app.
Open the file with OpenRunner:
Select Open with OpenRunner to directly import the file into the app.
Option 3: View a GPX without creating a route (offline possible)
Want to simply view a GPX file on your phone without launching the editor or creating a new route?
Open the OpenRunner app.
From the map, tap the map selector (top right corner).
Go to the Routes tab.
Select View a GPX.
Choose the file from your device.
Advantage: This method lets you view a GPX track offline, without a network connection.
Importing a GPX from the website
Open the route editor:
Click the Route editor tab in OpenRunner. A window will open with several options.
Select Import a GPX track as a base.
Add your file:
Browse files: Search your computer for the GPX file to import.
Drag and drop: Simply drag the GPX file from your desktop or folder into the import window.
Import multiple files (optional):
Select several files during import if you want to import more than one.
Tip for EXPLORER subscribers: With the EXPLORER subscription, you can merge multiple tracks directly at this stage.
After importing your GPX file
Once your GPX file is added:
The route will appear on the map, ready to view.
You can edit the track as needed. Waypoints from an imported GPX in the editor are yellow (manual) by default, making it easier to adjust. You can use SmartRoute for more efficient editing.
Don’t forget to save it to find it easily later.
