Learn how to change the type of waypoint and optimise your track according to your needs.
Change an existing waypoint
Click on a point along your route – a list of options will appear.
You can:
Delete the point
Change its type (manual or automatic)
Switch between automatic and manual mode
Why switch between modes?
Some parts of your route may not be supported by automatic mode (for example, a path missing from the map). In this case, you can switch to manual mode to force the track along these sections.
How to change the type for your next point
Click Waypoint type: Auto or Manual in the left-hand toolbar.
The next point will be Auto or Manual, depending on your choice.
Automatic point (red): follows known roads and paths.
Manual point (yellow): allows free drawing without map constraints (straight lines).
Add a manual point with right-click
If you have chosen the “Auto” waypoint type, you can quickly insert a manual point by right-clicking on the map.
This method lets you refine your track on segments that do not follow mapped paths automatically.
Improving OpenStreetMap maps
If you notice that a path is missing from the map, you can contribute to improving it:
Identify the type of way (road, trail, cycle path, etc.).
Specify its characteristics (surface, accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, cars, horse riders, etc.).
Send your observations via OpenRunner to help improve future map updates.
Thanks to your feedback, we can enrich our maps and provide even more accurate and adapted routes!
With these options, you have full control over creating and customising your route.
Enjoy exploring with OpenRunner!
